  1. Some Aggravated Drug Offences Under CDSA

  2. Introduction CDSA stands for Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. According to this act, there are several factors that aggravate the crime and consequent penalties. Some of these aggravating factors that are considered as serious drug offences are listed and described in this presentation. Let’s have a look.

  3. If drug trafficking was the purpose If the offender is found with drugs having an intent to conduct drug trafficking, it’s a serious offence. You can get away with a minimum penalty if you only had the drugs for personal use but not when you plan to distribute it to public.

  4. If it’s for an organized crime If possession of drugs has anything related to an organized crime, the penalties will be severe. Drugs can be used for committing large scale organized crimes. If there is a link found, the seriousness of the drug possession charge will be really high.

  5. If the accused misused authority or position If the person accused of the drug possession charge was in an influential position or had authority that he misused to get the possession of drugs. It’s the matter of breaking the trust that state has shown in him. This is a serious offence and will have aggravated penalties and consequences.

  6. If youth or children are involved If the accused has involved children or youth in the drug possession crime, it is also a very serious crime. It’s considered to be a serious crime because the accused has involved minors and youth which is really harmful for their lives and society’s future.
