  2. Course Materials • Holt Literature & Language Arts: First Course • Holt Handbook: First Course • Novels: Call of the Wild, Life of Pi, Dragonwings, Shabanu, Fahrenheit 451, and Samurai’s Tale • Language Arts notebook (composition book or spiral bound)

  3. Coursework & Assessments • Homework will be assigned each class. • Reading Assignments/Quizzes/Tests • From novels and textbook • Students should be reading 30 minutes/night • Students will be required to read 3-4 independent novels each trimester. • Writing Projects • Grammar Assignments/Quizzes

  4. Grading Policy • Late work will receive only half credit, except in the case of family emergencies. • Late projects will go down one letter grade for each day over the due date. • Any late work turned in after one week beyond the due date will receive only 10% credit. • Absent students will have one day for every day they are absent to make up work.

  5. Grading Policy • A standard grading scale will be used • Grading Categories: 50% Tests/Quizzes 30% Classwork/ Projects/ Home Reading/ Notebook 20% Homework
