  1. NOW WHAT? REVOLUTION IS OVER-CIVIL WAR! • A piece of note book paper…folded into fours. I will tell you how to label • Each group will need the 8 position cards (4 “reds” and 4 “whites”) Evaluate the positions held by the Whites and Reds after the government is overthrown. Which side is in the best position to run Russia? Complete the graphic organizer to record the advantages and problems faced by each side. You and your partner will decide who should govern Russia….defend your answer.

Defend your answer…. • In a paragraph, state your position as to who is the best qualified to govern the new Russia. • In your paragraph, include at least 3 specific reasons from the position cards to support your position (your position must be clearly stated) . Use names when appropriate and content vocabulary as well. You must also include at least 1 comparison to the other side. • Final MUST be an edited copy in pen or typed (rough draft is also due)

Main problems facing the Whites Red Advantages: Unified and disciplined leaders Scattered around central Russia, hundreds of miles between armies Trotsky was personally courageous Communication was difficult Singleaim: to stay in power Rivalry between generals The Reds held the central area of western Russia, which was where most large industries were Different aims amongst the Whites Lacked good leaders Controlled train and communication lines, so the Reds could act quickly Whites fought amongst themselves and didn’t trust each other
