  1. Five Tips to Prevent Cavities & Keep Your Teeth Healthy

  2. Cavities are the most common cause of teeth decay. Seemingly small, these holes in our teeth could lead to excruciating pain and severe teeth decay. These cavities, actually, damage the tooth enamel that protects our teeth and impair our oral health, and ignoring them could worsen the situation. While dentists offers effective treatments to help you overcome cavities, you can help yourself by taking some preventive measures. Isn’t prevention better, less-expensive and less painful than cure? While teeth decay can lead to tooth loss, you must consider following tips to prevent cavities:

  3. Use “Brush Your Teeth Twice” Formula Brushing twice a day is essential to prevent cavities and remove bacteria from the mouth. However, it is important to brush both inner and outer surfaces of your teeth for two minutes, at least. Besides, flossing helps remove bacteria and food particles too and reduces the risk of cavities.

  4. Eat Teeth-Friendly Foods Cut down on sweets and starchy foods and eat healthy foods to prevent cavities and teeth decay. Chow down cheese, vegetables and fruits to keep your teeth healthy and cavity-free. Switch to unsweetened tea and coffee to protect your pearly white teeth. Also, avoid cookies, chips, candies, sweet breads, pretzels and sticky foods to reduce the risk of teeth decay. Moreover, steer clear of sodas and sweetened juices too because they facilitate bacteria accumulation.

  5. Use an Anti-Bacterial Mouthwash Rinse your mouth with an anti-bacterial mouthwash daily to eradicate bacteria and food residues and prevent cavities. Gargling mouthwash further helps in fighting cavities and keeps your teeth and gums healthy. A mouthwash with fluoride will significantly help in protecting the tooth enamel and preventing cavities.

  6. Know about Dental Sealants Dental sealants are thing, plastic coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They may not prevent cavities directly, but provide protection from plaque buildup and food particles which can cause cavities. So, talk to your dentist about the sealants. They are, particularly, effective for people who are susceptible to getting cavities. Remember, they might act as a shield, but don’t use them without consulting your dentist.

  7. Visit Your Dentist Regularly Visits to dentists should never be postponed which means it is very important to see your dentist on a regular basis whether you have a dental complaint or not. Seeing your dentist regularly can keep many oral health issues away and help you protect your teeth and gums. The regular examinations can help dentists diagnose the dental problems and treat them in time. Similarly, their tips and suggestions too can help you prevent cavities

  8. Cavities can badly damage teeth and it is important to follow a proper dental care plan on a regular basis to keep your teeth healthy. However, in case of severe pain or sensitivity, you must see your dentist immediately.
