  4. Social Indicators • Low rates of literacy • Under five mortality : 275/1000 • Infant mortality Rate:165/1000 • Maternal Mortality Rate:1600/100,000 • 40-60% of childern chronically malnourished • Life Expectancy: 45-47 years

  5. Status of HIV/AIDS in Afghanistan • Little data on HIV/AIDS or STI • No surveillance system • Reported cases from blood screening • Little awareness of HIV/AIDS • Myths about HIV/AIDS • No history of NACP

  6. Risk Factors for HIV/AIDS • Mass Population displacement • Disruption of Social structures and family unit • Food insecurity and economic vulnerability of women • Psychological truoma • Disruption of preventive/curative Services

  12. Objectives1 • To expand the Knowledge base in order to facilitate planning implementation and Evaluation of HIV/AIDS & STI

  13. Objective 2 • To ensure an effective well coordinate and sustainable multi-sectoral response to HIV/AIDS in Afghanistan

  14. Objective 3 • To reduce risk of HIV/AIDS infection among vulnerable high risk groups

  15. Objective 4 • To reduce vulnerability of young people to HIV/AIDS

  16. Objective 5 • To reduce the risk of infection amongst the general population through an increase awareness levels

  17. Objective 6 • To reduce prevalence and prevent transmission of STI

  18. Objective 7 • To reduce the risk of transmission of HIV/AIDS and other blood borne infection through blood transfusion

  19. Objective 8 • To improve quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS through provision of quality care support.
