  1. Natural Disaster Management Project Pakorn Apaphant/Hiromichi Fukui Project and Application Subgroup Proposed to WGISS 23 Hanoi, Vietnam May 21-25, 2007

  2. Point of Contact • Pakorn Apaphant, GISTDA • Hiromichi Fukui, Keio University/JAXA

  3. From WGISS 22 • A project profile was proposed • To support DI 06-01 • Presentations • Related projects/TTs from WGISS • Discussion • To add value of the Project • how could it support a GEOSS task

  4. DI-06-09: Use of Satellite for Risk Management • Led by WMO and China • With Reference to a multi-hazard approach, define and facilitate implementation of a virtual constellation for risk management. • The task will include: • Development of dedicate software tools to be used • in short term, to facilitate the analysis of coverage for critical coverage for critical observations and, • in medium term, to implement the user interface with the operators for products ordering and retrieval, and to perform data integration and reprocessing.

  5. Origin of the task team • Use of Satellite for risk management has been indicated as Task DI-06-09 in GEO 2007-2009 Work Plan. • The medium term goal is “to implement the user interface with the operators for products ordering and retrieval and to perform data integration and reprocessing.”

  6. Coordination among agencies has established such as Sentinel Asia and ASIAES • to make use of space related technologies for disaster and risk management. • To develop a prototype to support the medium goal of DI06-09 • using existing tools in Sentinel Asia and ASIAES • developed by WGISS member agencies

  7. Objectives • To make use of technologies and tools developed by WGISS/CEOS to support GEOSS task DI 06-09 • To prototype user interface for ordering and retrieval of relevant data integration service for better access of satellite imageries of Natural disaster risk areas in Asia.

  8. Implement strategy • June 07 – Sep 08 (1 year 3 months) • June 2007 – September 2007 • To coordinate with the DI 06-09 task leaders (CSA and CNES), who shall contribute for this task • To design a prototype

  9. October 2007 – April 2008 (WGISS 24) • To develop a prototype to support task requirement using tools available in Sentinel Asia and ASIAES systems • To test capability of the prototype • April 2008-September 2008 (WGISS 25) • To document project summary and report

  10. Deliverables • User interface • For ordering and retrieval of relevant data • Data integration services. • Potential External Partnerships • Space Agencies in Asia Pacific

  11. Relationship with WGISS Goal • NDM activities relate to access, archiving and exchange of satellite images. The systems will be also interconnected and interoperable • NDM will coordinate with CEOS and Non CEOS members.. • NDM will provide forums through international coordination such as Sentinel Asia, ASIAES project, and APAN network

  12. Thank you for your consideration
