  1. Concurrent Credit 101 Northwest Nazarene University Concurrent Credit Program Summer Institute 2009

  2. Definition • Through Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, qualified students can earn college credit prior to high school graduation. University-approved high school instructors teach the college courses during the normal school day. Such programs provide a direct connection between secondary and post-secondary institutions and an opportunity for collegial collaboration. • Although courses in some CEPs may have some elements or characteristics of the programs stated below, CEPs are distinct programs from the following: • Programs in which the high school student travels to the college campus to take courses prior to graduation during the academic year or during the summer. • Programs where college faculty travel to the high school to teach courses to the high school students. • The College Board Advanced Placement Program and the International Baccalaureate Program where standardized tests are used to assess students’ knowledge of a curriculum developed by a committee consisting of both college and high school faculty.

Instructor Approval • Application: • Resume or Vita • College Transcripts (unofficial) • Additional requirements from Departments • (Instructor minimum requirements available from CCP office) • Applications are reviewed by the NNU Academic Department where the course is offered. Applicant is notified of decision.

  5. Course Approval • Approved instructor submits course syllabus for approval. • Course must: • Be submitted on a syllabus template (available online or from the CCP office) • Be aligned to the on-campus course • Include required course topics and pedagogy • Meet the grading standards of the department • Resources: NNU and NNU-approved high school sample syllabi and course-specific requirements

Student Registration • Students may register for classes using the following options: • During the regular class period • CCP present program and register students at a high school parent information meeting • Online (www.nnu.edu/concurrentcredit) • Students MUST register and pay tuition for the college credit at the beginning of the class • Tuition is $65 per credit; there is no payment plan for concurrent students for 2009-10

  7. Teaching the Course • Concurrent credit instructor is considered adjunct faculty for NNU • Additional material may be covered as long a NNU course requirements are met

Instructor Benefits • Collaboration with NNU faculty in subject area • Tuition Waiver for 3 continuing education credits • Continuing education credit for • Summer Institute Attendance • Teaching a CCP course • At least $350 instructor support • NNU ID cards • Free admission to athletic events • Use of training facilities • 20% NNU Bookstore discount • Use of Riley Library services • Desk copies of course materials upon request
