Lorenzo Ghiberti • Lorenzo’s father was Bartoluccio Ghiberti, a trained artist and goldsmith, who trained his son in the gold trade. • Lorenzo Ghiberti was an Italian designer, sculptor, goldsmith, architect and writer. • Ghiberti was born in Florence in1378 and died at the age of seventy seven in 1455. The Gates of Hell of Augusta Rodin were inspired by the "Gates of Paradise. This is one of his works of art.

This is another work of art by Lorenzo Ghilberti • He first came to prominence as winner of the 1401 competition for a set of bronze doors to the Florence Bapistry. • The winner of this got to make the first set of bronze doors for the Bapistry of the cathedral in Florence. Brunelleschi was the runner up. The original plan was for the doors to depict scenes from the Old Testament, and the trial piece was the sacrifice of Isaac. However, the plan was changed to depict scenes from the NewTestament instead.
