ETIQUETTE AND CUSTOMS IN KENYA • Women are often dressed as “Mama” and men as “Mzee” • Kenyans give gifts for events of religious significance in someone's life or day. • Its customary to give small gifts to servants/tradesmen on Christmas. • Gifts should be given with the right or either both hands not the left. • Honored guest is usually served first, followed by the men, children and women. • Official languages spoken in Kenya are English and Swahili, there are actually 62 different languages spoken in the country. • Kenyan guarantees freedom of religion

  4. CELEBRATIONS AND FOOD IN KENYA This a 3 day annual cultural festival the celebrates the Swahili Culture in Lamu. The festival consists of all types of traditional dances, along with different kinds of handicrafts. They also run competitions like donkey races, dhow races and they also do henna paintings. There are also different types of food that are eaten in Kenya: • Ugali : water and maize mixture that becomes a white paste • Goat Stew: goat meat and vegetable made into a stew • Porridge: cream of wheat • Chipates: like tortillas, scoop your main dish in the chipate and eat it together, eaten with most meals

  6. CONCLUSION My presentation shows the traditional cultures of Kenya. Marriage in Kenya shows the value and respect for human life, respect for peoples property, morality and also good leadership and belief in their marriage. These values provide the moral code for people to follow for they were taught that peoples property have to do with honesty and righteousness. This is why traditional cultures in Kenya had their children socialize to embrace moral values. Tradititional cultures recognized value of wealth as the basic ingredient of good leadership, in Kenya today a lot of people strive for positions of leadership in order to gain good wealth. This is why many of their leaders get involved in corrupt deals from left and right.
