  3. An important Christian festival What is the most important Christian festival? The most important festival for Christians is Easter. Do you know why? Easter commemorates Jesus’ death and resurrection. Christians believe that by dying Jesus’ took the punishment for their sins and made it possible for us to know God. This is the one central teaching of the Christian faith. Before Easter comes the period of Lent. This year Lent runs from 22nd February to 7th April.

  6. The meaning of Lent Many people give up a luxury like chocolate for Lent, and on Easter Sunday Easter eggs are given. The eggs traditionally symbolize the new life Jesus brings. But for many Christians, Lent has a much deeper meaning than just giving something up for a while. Some Christians see Lent as a call to resist temptation, just as Jesus resisted Satan’s temptation to turn a rock into bread after he had been fasting for 40 days. Interview a Christian about how they observe Lent. What meaning do they see behind the tradition?
