Lesson Outcomes • Differentiate among the processes of reception, perception, and reaction to sensory stimuli. • Discuss the relationship of sensory function to an individuals' level of wellness. • Discuss common causes and effects of sensory alterations. • Discuss common sensory changes that normally occur with aging. • Identify factors to assess in determining a patient's sensory status. • Identify nursing diagnoses relevant to patients with sensory alterations. • Develop a plan of care for patients with sensory deficits. • List interventions for preventing sensory deprivation and controlling sensory ove

  5. Teaching ProcedureMotivation • 1. Which sense means the most to you and why? Group discussion • 2. Activity: To explain stereognosis, have students bring at least 5 small objects in opaque bags without revealing what they brought, work in pairs, and practice guessing what is in their partner’s bag by closing their eyes, reaching into the bag, and feeling the objects.
