  1. Moldflow Communicator 1.0 - Briefing for Field AEs and Customer Support Engineers For Internal Moldflow Use Only

  2. Installation • If you have had a pre-release version installed you must manually clean the registry • Failure to do so may cause • Incorrect toolbar placement • Inability to read .mfr files • Use regedit to launch Registry Editor and delete • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Moldflow/Moldflow Communicator/1.0

  3. Installation Warning on Windows 2000 • On Windows 2000 you will see the above warning message • Although Moldflow Communicator is not supported, the product works just fine • However, we had not fully tested it • We will not fix any bugs associated with this platform

  4. Supported Hardware Platforms

  5. Known Issues • If a TMPDIR environment variable is set on your system then Moldflow Communicator will create temporary results folders (mfrv<xx>) directly in C:\ • Ignore these temporary folders. They are automatically deleted when the product is closed • If it worries you then remove the environment variable

  6. Registration Process • Fully Automatic Activation Process • Product cannot be used until activated • Sending an existing MPI registration to register_mfc will not work • Keys typically take 10 minutes to be e-mailed back • Registration is specific to a computer • Users have to register separately on each computer they plan to use the product on • Upon activation, the key is stored in the file • C:\Program Files\Moldflow\Communicator 1.0\bin\activation.key • Removing this file will require re-activation

  7. Known Issues with MFR Files • Large .mfr Files • If the MPI analysis sequence includes an analysis check in the sequence then the resultant .mfr file may be large • This is expected to be resolved in MPI 6.0 Revision 2 • Molding Window Results • The export fails to include Molding window result data • Everything appears OK, but no result data is shown inside Moldflow Communicator • This is expected to be resolved in MPI 6.0 Revision 2

  8. Known Issues with MFR Files • Custom/User Defined Results • The export fails to include result data for these plots • Everything appears OK, but no result data is show inside Moldflow Communicator • This is expected to be resolved in MPI 6.0 Revision 2 • DOE Results • Only the default Result Position is displayed • Any changes made to result properties will be lost. • This is due to the fact that result properties are currently not stored in the MFR file • This is expected to be resolved in MPI6.0 Revision 2

  9. Known Issues – Criteria Editor • Criteria files can only be generated in MPI • Criteria Files are not stored in the .mfr file • A Criteria file is only required if the Quantify Results Option is to be used • Differences in terminology between Criteria Editor and Quantify Output • Several entries have different wording • Several entries appear in different sections • Quantify output may display irrelevant items • Such as Mesh match ratio for 3D meshes • These issues will be fixed in a future release

  10. Known Issues – Launch Wizard • The wizard is displayed at the start of the product • There is no way to go back to the wizard • The File section box for the Wizard is generally too narrow to display the filename

  11. Things to Note – About MFR Files • Use MPI 6.0 Revision 1 or higher to export MFR files • MFR files generated in MPI 6.0 FCS can not be read into Moldflow Communicator 1.0 • They can not be read into MPI • They do not contain layer information • Instead, layers that are active in MPI/Synergy at the time of exporting MFR files are what will be visible inside Moldflow Communicator • Ensure the active layers are set correctly when exporting • Pay particular attention when exporting cooling results with mold boundaries
