Characteristic features of ultrasonic level measuring method 4. Review of models of ultrasonic level gages andsoftware 5. Technical characteristics of ultrasonic level gages 6. Design features of electroacoustic transducers 7. Certificates and acknowledgment letters 8. Level gage operation experience, realized projects

  3. 1. Application purposes of modern level gage Why is the level gage bought: • increasing ofmeasuring accuracy; • elimination of possibilities of individual errors at measuring; • automation of measuring process – refusal fromgauge stick; • use of measured data inautomated accounting systems; • obtaining of information aboutproduct density; • use as signalling device in system of EDES; • use as a device for automatic calibration of tanks; • continuous observation of life cycle of tank and product in it • during the whole storage period

  4. 2. Review ofUkrainian market of level gages • According to the used measuring method: • magnetostriction • (“float”) ~ 64% • capacity ~ 0,3% • - radio frequency ~ 12% • ultrasonic • (only “ND”) ~ 17% • - others~ 6,7% * All known types of objects are taken into account (filling stations, petroleum storage depots, industry, railway, etc.)

  5. 2. Review ofUkrainian market of level gages • The main brands, used in Ukraine: • - Veeder-Root (TLS…) • OPW (Site Sentinel…) • Struna (PSD…) • “ND” (UUS, UUP…) ~ 24% • - othermanufacturers ~ 18% ~ 58% * All known types of objects are taken into account (filling stations, petroleum storage depots, industry, railway)

  6. Characteristic features of ultrasonic level measuring method Background of creation and developmentof method: • conversion of method frommilitary production ofUSSR; • deeplong-term theoretical and practicalinvestigation of • ultrasound extension properties in liquid medium; • application practice on hundreds of objects of varioussections and • areas of practice (filling stations, petroleum storage depots, • utility companies, industry, etc.)

  7. Characteristic features of ultrasonic level measuring method Positive side of the use of ultrasound as“measuring device”: • possibility of use of noncontact measuring method throughmetal walls of tanks; • possibility of determination of weight characteristic of fuel of standardized types*, • percentage ratio of propane/butane for liquefied gas; • absence of high requirements to wear resistance and strength of equipment design • at realization of method ; • - simplicity of transducer design and method for their installationin/on tanks, • as a result– simplicity of service maintenance andsimplified service support procedure, • absence of necessity of expensive SPTA; • - durability of ultrasonic sensors is not less than14 years *There is a possibility of identification of oil product manufacturer

  8. Characteristic features of ultrasonic level measuring method Principle of operation of ultrasonic method: • based ondetection and ranging of reflecting surface by means of ultrasound • throughsound transparent media; • - level gage carriers out time measuring between radiation of acoustic signals and • arrival of echo signals fromreflecting surfaces; • according to the results of detection and ranging a boundary line of material • (liquid level) or two unmixed liquids of various density (level of bottom water) • is determined, • in case ofstratification– levels for separation of liquids; • self-diagnostic check– presence of “measuring base”, automatic regulation of signal • amplification level, etc.

  9. Characteristic features of ultrasonic level measuring method Unquestionableadvantages of ultrasoniclevel gages, to which it is necessary to pay attention: • - calibration interval of 2 years (rivals– 1 year); • periodic verification can take place directly on object - • special imitator is developed for this purpose and verificationcan be carried out without • dismantling of probes (rivals– dismantlingandexport); • central block of level gage isunified: more than 64 probes of different types • (immersion, surface contact, air, OPW probes) can be simultaneously connected to one • central block; • - absence ofmoving elements, exception of mechanical wear

  10. 4. Review of models of ultrasonic level gages Level gages with SURFACE CONTACT electroacoustic transducers: • - used for noncontact measuringof liquid leveland estimate of density; • are essential for control of tanks with liquefied gas ortoxic aggressive liquids; • allow carrying out measuring without opening of tanks onrailway vehicles; • - while working with gas– determination of propane/butane ratio Stationarylevel gageUUS-00* withsurface contact transducers Portable level gageUUP for railway tanks** * There are no any analogs in Ukraine ** estimation measuring of product density without opening of tank is possible
