  1. MathCats! Who we are, what we do, and how we do it.

  2. What is/are MathCats? • MathCats is a social club that provides students with an accepting and inclusive environment full of fun, games, and FOOD. • A MathCat is someone who attends MathCats meetings (duh). • MathCats are people just like you! They come to MathCats meetings to be social and have fun. • Fun Fact::Our mascot is a dog by the name of Zero.

  3. Why be a MathCat? • You might learn a thing or two from your fellow MathCats—many conversations during game nights have to do with math or things relating to math. • It’s FUN • It’s a great way to relax after a long day of classes • Meeting new friends • Free Food!

  4. What are the requirements to be in MathCats? • The only requirement is that you are a student somewhere. This could mean that you are from NAU, ASU, U of A, or any other university (even community college students are welcome, [albeit uncommon]) • You do NOT have to know vector calculus or have taken 400-level courses to be in MathCats. Our meetings do not revolve around Math. They revolve around the students attending them.

  5. What do we do in MathCats, if not math?!?!?!?!! • Whatever we want! Officers will hold executive meetings once a month, and will plan meetings for the following four weeks. Any suggestions received via email or otherwise will be brought up during these meetings, so if you have an idea for a MathCats meeting, let one of your representatives know! • Past meetings have included going to Rocks n’ Ropes, Mafia night, a resume workshop with Dr. Velez, Carving the Pumpkin Pi, Ping-Pong/Pool in the Underground, playing Ultimate Frisbee on the mall, card games, board games, movie nights, pizza parties, going out to eat, “Look Around You” night, several side events, and more!

  6. What other things do we do? • Some suggestions for future meetings have included a Guitar Hero/RockBand party, Karaoke night, throwing a talent show, and more. • Last year MathCats held a ping-pong tournament in remembrance of Maurice Lee, a math major who passed away in July, 2008. • Some MathCats participated in the annual Climb to Conquer Cancer hike up “A” Mountain. • This year, MathCats will host a few “Music in the Bowl” nights. • Fundraising through ASUA • A talent show • A costume contest/Fashion show

  7. How can I learn about MathCats meetings? • All math majors are automatically added to the MathCats listserv, and we will send out (rarely more than) one email per week informing you of the meeting to come. If you do not wish to be on the listserv, simply ask to be removed, or ask to not be added in the first place. • You can also request to be added to the listserv by speaking to one of the club officials.
