  3. SAFER FUTURE COMMUNITIES • Funded by the Home Office Support and Modernisation Fund until 31st March 2013 • Managed by Clinks in partnership with NAVCA. WRC, Drugscope, NCVYS, WCVA and CWVYS • In consultation with a national strategic stakeholder group

  4. PURPOSE To strengthen the voice and influence of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector to prepare for the arrival of police and crime commissioners and the new commissioning landscape

  5. Implications for the VCSE sector • Need to review current arrangements for delivering community safety services • Understand the new commissioning landscape • Provide evidence to support your “business plan” • Demonstrate how you can help the PCCs to understand the needs of local people • Represent the needs and concerns of the most vulnerable groups, including victims and offenders

  6. Aims • To secure more effective working between the sector, Community Safety Partnerships, PCCs and other statutory agencies • To support PCC area networks to develop and communicate a convincing case about local community safety needs and how the VCSE can contribute • To ensure the Home Office community safety priorities are represented across the networks

  7. Local Safer Future Communities networks • A lead organisation in each PCC area will: • Co-ordinate and manage a diverse network • Gather information and evidence around local priorities and influence strategic plans • Build links between the network and other strategic partners • Identify training and support needs of network partners • Provide evidence of the success and impact of the network partners and of lessons for policy makers and practitioners • Ensure excluded groups and the vulnerable are heard and represented

How will Safer Future Communities help? • Provide reasonable expenses to support the creation and development of networks • Keep networks informed of developments • Provide information, support and training • Disseminate learning for policy and practice from the work of the networks • Respond to the needs of the networks

  9. Benefits for police areas • Single point of contact for VCSE sector • Represents coherent and inclusive network • Offers specific local knowledge and expertise • Provide solutions to local community safety concerns • Can reach the most marginalised and vulnerable groups in the community

  10. Current activity • Area networks are developing fast • Strategic partnerships with transition boards • Consultations on commissioning models • Local area launch events • Plans for lobbying candidates

  11. Future activity • Nationally endorsed statement of support to police and crime commissioners • National event to showcase best practice • Engagement with elected police and crime commissioners to inform and support their police and crime plans
