  2. Rules for the American Flag • The flag should be raised and lowered by hand. • The flag is only flown from sunrise to sunset. • If the flag is flown at night, it is illuminated. • The flag may be flown on any day of the year. • The flag cannot touch the ground.

More rules for the flag… • The flag can be flown upside down to indicate distress. • No other flag can be flown higher than the American flag. • No other flag can be flown to the American flag’s right, if the two are flown at the same height. • The proper way to destroy an old, worn-out flag is to burn it. It must first be cut into two pieces: the stars and the stripes.
