  1. Ratio & Rate Problems

  2. You should try to make a “connection” first! At an aquarium, 6 out of 18 fish are dangerous. Out of 15 fish, how many are dangerous? 5 Notice anything???? _? d.f. 15 fish 6 d.f. 18 fish = ÷ 3 ÷ 3 The 6 and 18 have a “connection”

  3. Or you could just use a Unit Rate instead. Sam spent $34 on 4 CDs. At this rate, how much would 5 CDs cost? x 3 51 17 2 $34 4 CDs $_?_ 6 CDs Make a Unit Rate! = x 3 NOW it will work!!!

  4. Sometimes the numbers are big and make you think…so here is another way! Out of 21 students 5 of them walk home. If there are 525 students about how many of them walk home? 1 2 5 Since 21/5 is in simplest form try this… 525 st. ? Walk 21 st. 5 walk 21 2625 = -21 52 Multiply diagonally 525 x 5 -42 Divide by the number left over 105 -105

  5. Abby spent $3.96 for 2 pounds of strawberries, how much would 5 pounds be? Or just multiply and divide! First, try to find a connection $3.96 = ? 2 lb 5 lb $3.96 = ? 2 lb 5 lb If the connection is not EASY try a unit rate! $1.98 = ? 1 lb 5 lb 3.96 x 5 = 19.8 Now divide by 2! 19.8 / 2 = 9.9 Now multiply by 5! $1.98 = $9.90 1 lb 5 lb See, you get the same answer!!! $1.98 = $9.90 1 lb 5 lb
