India’s Vigorous Growth in The Biogas Sector Will Continue

Biogas upgradation plants help to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment as cattle dung and agricultural waste gets utilized. The biogas purification system will reduce the need to import natural gas and crude oils from other countries which will help boost the Indian economy by a significant margin.

  1. India’s Vigorous Growth in The Biogas Sector Will Continue Compressed biogas has transformed India’s economy over the past few years. Stats suggest that the economic growth will increase manifold in the coming years. Biomass sources including cattle dung, municipal solid waste, sugarcane press mud and sewage treatment plant waste among others are used to produce biogas through a process called anaerobic decomposition. Purification of biogas takes place in a biogas purification system and elements such as hydrogen sulfide, water vapor and carbon dioxide are eliminated. Compressed biogas is seen as an alternative to automotive fuel as it has the calorific values and properties such as CNG. There is no dearth of biomass availability in India and hence compressed biogas is considered as a transformative fuel. It can easily replace CNG as the new and renewable automotive fuel.

  2. There are a number of benefits of converting biomass into CBG. It not only helps eliminate waste and pollution, but also addresses the major fuel problem. Below are some of the many benefits of compressed biogas and biogas upgradation plants- ● Reduced carbon footprint on the environment as cattle dung and agricultural waste gets utilized. ● Reduced need to import natural gas and crude oils from other countries which will help boost Indian economy by a significant margin. ● Country will be able to fulfill their climate change goals with utmost ease. ● Better ability to answer energy security related questions and otherwise huge fluctuations of crude and gas prices. ● Opening new avenues of revenue generation and income for farmers and populace of rural India. India’s prime minister Narendra Modi has always seen biogas upgrading as panacea of a multiple problems. He believes that the four pillars of India’s economic future are: energy access, energy sustainability, energy efficiency and energy security. India’s policy revolves around compressed biogas and that’s why the Government of India released their national policy on biofuels in year 2018. The policy highlights the importance and promotion of compressed biogas and biogas upgradation plants.

  3. There are numerous sources which can be used for biogas production. These sources include not just cattle dung and municipal or agricultural waste, but also rotten vegetables, waste streams from poultry farms, industrial effluent treatment plants, forestry waste and other food waste. CBG (compressed biogas) must meet the necessary criteria. It must meet the IS 16087:2016 specifications of BIS. It must be devoid of any sort of impurities such as dirt, dust etc. It must also be compressed at 250 bar. Hope you found the post informative and useful.
