  1. The City is No Place For a Kitty

  2. Stevie McMeow was always too proud, yowling and yelling and meowing and mewing. He was no longer content with his life in the same house he has been in for the past two years. That is all he had ever known. Each day, he would look out the window and look at the new people and places he has only dreamed of finally exploring. He pleaded and cried saying “Mom, let me out!” or “Pleeeeeeaseeeee!” but he always would only get petted and told that “The city is no place for a kitty! So day after day he began to think of new ways to get out of his prison of a house. “Eureka! I got it!” His plan was foolproof. The second his dad would come home which was at home at three o’clock each day, he tried to run outside before he can close the door! “I am too fast for that silly old man, and he will never be able to catch me!”

  3. Day after day after day after day, he tried to run through that door, but his dad never let him get by. “What? This can’t be, i am much much too fast!” So he cried and whined and his mommy held him saying “The city’s no place for a Kitty!” “No place for a kitty? Are you really sure? I know its full of things great for cats!” He knew she was lying only to make him mad, but wouldn’t your mommy want to make you glad? “I don’t know, it doesn’t make sense! Thats really all i want to go and explore and she can’t even let me do that!”

  4. The next day came around and his parents sat him down. “Son,” they began “We know you have been wanting to go outside, so we have decided to let you go out, just to try!” Stevie was ecstatic he began to jump with happiness! “Mom, Dad, you mean it? You’re not lying to me?” “Well son,” They continued, “You are getting older you see, and we think you can handle this responsibility. We believe you are old enough to go out and adventure and see what there is to see

  5. “You cannot take things from stores without paying for them, don’t talk to strangers, don’t take anything from strangers, and DO NOT play in traffic! Please be home by five.” To all of those directions, Stevie said yes, but they all seemed to go in one ear and right out the other. He was so happy to finally get outside, he didn’t listen to his mom!

  6. So off he went, curious as ever. Smelling every smell, Brushing up against every semi-pointy object, running after every mouse. After a nice time with that, he began to get further from home. He was deeper in the city now, and he began to get a bit nervous. He heard rustling in the street across from him. Alley cats! He crossed paths with the big, bad alley cats that he has only ever heard about before in stories, and they were supposed to be menacing and mean. “Hey little guy” the alley cats taunted. “I’m not afraid of you! I’m the biggest, strongest, most fearsome cat ever!” Stevie exclaimed. The alley cats didn’t seem impressed.

  7. “Hey Boss, I think you should take a look at who we've got here” one scraggly cat meowed. “Boss? Who’s Boss?” Stevie McMeow began to get really scared, he has gotten in over his head! “Wh- wh- whooo are you?” Stevie mewed cautiously. “I am Boss!” the large cat exclaimed proudly. “How are yadoin?” Stevie became mighty confused. “You’re not gonna hurt me are ya?” He closed his eyes, waiting for his impending doom.

  8. “Hurt you? Why would I ever hurt you? We love new people here! I think that you have the wrong idea buddy.” Each of the six cats behind Boss shook their heads in agreement. “Are you hungry man? ‘Cause we just got a bunch of wet-food in for all of us, and we think you are certainly an honorary member of the cat clan on kitty St. and we would be more than happy to share.” Stevies tummy began to rumble, and he was getting hungry. He remembered his mom say something about strangers. But he couldn’t remember what she had said exactly! He took a bite. “This is the best thing i have ever had! It is totally better than the dry food my parents give me.” Then it hit him.

  9. His mother’s voice rang out in his head. “Don’t take anything from strangers!” He hung his head. He broke his moms rule! “Listen Boss,” He sadly exclaimed, “This is my first time out in the city and my mom said not to take anything from strangers. I’m really sorry, but I think it’s time for me to be on my way.” The city was very crowded with people that day. All of these people were overwhelming to Stevie. He became kind of nervous and claustrophobic, and started to get really nervous. Stevie got off of the busy bustle of the street and went into a store. This store was incredible! As if it was entirely made for cats. There were even other cats, but they were all with their families so he didn’t want to interrupt. He saw all of these houses made for cats, made of fur and made for scratching! He scratched and played with all of the toys he saw.

  10. In the midst of all the playing and excitement, be began to lose track of all the time and realized it was already quarter after four, and he was far from home. He sprinted out of the store and ran down the street for a few blocks. He smelled the smell of catnip and looked down to his mouth. He had forgotten to put down the toy mouse! He was a thief and he once again broke his mom’s rule. He began to sob and walked somberly back to the store. “Excuse me,” He whimpered to the sales clerk. I accidentally took this, and i’m really sorry. The sales clerk obviously didn’t understand Stevie, as for he is a cat and the clerk is a human. Seeing the sad expression and the dropped toy mouse, the clerk understood what had happened. She picked up Stevie and said “It’s okay buddy, let me take this back for you.” “Huh,” Stevie thought to himself. “These city sidewalks are far more crowded than the street itself! Maybe if I just run along the street, I can get home in almost three times as fast!”

  11. The further he ran, the more cars began to appear and he had to dip and dodge around the headlights. After that wave of cars dissipated, he started to run closer to the curb so he wouldn’t get hurt. His mothers voice echoed in his head “Don’t play in traffic!” His face sunk and he dodged onto the curb. He sat on the nearest bench and began to talk to himself. “Geez. My mom only gave me a few rules and I have basically broken each and every rule and I feel awful about it. Maybe she was right, maybe the city really isn’t a place for a kitty.” Those last few steps leading to his door were the longest steps of his life. It was 5:15. He was late. Even if he did want to ever go back into the city, his mom would never let him because he blew it on his first trip. He had successfully broke each and every one of his mom’s rules. He felt so guilty and just had to tell her and get it off his chest, because he knew if he was honest about his mistakes, he would be in a lot less trouble than if he lied and she found out some other way.

  12. “How was your day sweetie? Did you enjoy the city?” He thought about it. “Well, yes I did enjoy myself! But you do remember those rules you gave me right?” His mom was intrigued and wanted to hear where he was going with this. “Yes son, go on.” He was almost too upset to speak but he knew he had to. “I went out and I met some alley cat’s and I know you said not to talk to strangers but I did. They then offered me some of their new super tasty wet food and I tried it and it was amazing! I realized you told me not to do that and then I was really upset. After that, I walked around more and went to a brilliant store with so many goodies made entirely for cats and all animals! I played with the toy mice and scratched the scratching posts and it was really fun, but I realized I was going to be running late and I ran out the door without realizing that I still had a toy mouse in my mouth! I knew you told me not to steal anything and that is exactly what I did, so I went back and apologized and returned it. Then I had to run home even faster so I wouldn’t be late and I ran in the street with the cars and dodged each one. And then I....” His mom cut him off. “Honey, it’s okay! You are rambling on and you are making yourself seem like a criminal! Yes you made mistakes, but nobody ever asked you to be perfect. You realized what you did wrong and that is okay! The reason you make mistakes is to learn from them and not do it again!” Stevie breathed a sigh of relief. “So you’re not mad?” He said timidly. “Nope! It took a lot of maturity for you to tell me about your mistakes and own up to them. I am proud of you buddy. Now that you have learned from your mistakes that you needed to make, I think the city is most certainly a place for a kitty.”
