Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit Tenth Anniversary of HTPU’s formation in 2007 Investigate and prosecute forced labor, sex trafficking of adults, and international sex trafficking, in collaboration with USAOs, focusing on novel, complex, multi-jurisdictional, and international cases; Lead interagency enforcementinitiatives to enhance the federal law enforcement response to human trafficking; Developtraining and capacity-building programs on survivor-centered, trauma-informed, rights-based anti-trafficking enforcement strategies Providelegislative, policy, and programmatic expertise to advance comprehensive anti-trafficking strategies and enhance strategic partnerships

Prosecutions 2007: initiated a record 32federal prosecutions in most recent FY 2017: more than tripled that record to 98 Over 600 federal prosecutions against 1,400 defendants, resulting in over 1,000 convictions since HTPU’s formation Increases of +164%, +122%, and +86% in cases filed, defendants charged, and defendants convicted

Percentage of National Growth ACTeams constituted 7% of Judicial Districts But they accounted for: 58% of the national increase in cases filed; 64% of the national increase in defendants charged; and 56% of the national increase in defendants convicted of districts, but accounted for 58% of the national increase in cases filed, 64% of the increase in defendants charged, and 56% of the increase in defendants convicted in such cases during Phase I compared to the pre-Phase I period of FYs 2010-2011
