  1. The Creation Story By: Katie Gipson Tori Hosman

  2. Creation Myths • Inca: Humans were made of stone. The children of the Sun and Moon helped the first people. There were golden rods for were the cities would be placed. • China: There was an egg of chaos. A dragon formed the sky, land and oceans. Humans were made out of clay. • Egypt: Earth, sky, wisdom, justice, and death were looked at as humans.

  3. Genesis 1-3 • Chapter 1 describes the first 6 days of creation, including the creation of seas, light, plants, animals, and humans. • Chapter 2 tells the story of Eden and goes into more detail of how God created humans. • Chapter 3 tells of how original sin came into the world with the eating from the tree of wisdom.

  4. Similarities between Myths and Genesis creation story • In the Bible, there was only one person that created the earth and humans. • In the myths, multiple people or things had a part in creation. • The myths don’t have a noticeable influence on the biblical creation story.

  5. Significance of the Sabbath, the 7th day • The 7th day is when God rested from creating. • The Sabbath rest crowns creation as a roof crowns a temple.

  6. “To be created in the image of God” • God is our Father. • We are like God. • Human life posses great sacredness. • Our work has special value.

  7. CCC on the truths of creation • Man and woman have been created, which is to say, willed by God: on one hand in perfect equality as human persons, and on the other, in their respective beings as man and woman.

  8. “The Fall” and “Spiritual Death” • Adam and Eve lost supernatural life, original holiness, and original justice. • Losing this life is true death-a death much worse than any they would have experienced had they simply lost their bodily lives.

  9. Protoevangelium • Protoevangelium is the first time God revealed something about his plan for the salvation of the world-Jesus Christ, Son of Mary (woman) who would bruise the head of the devil (serpent).

  10. Effects of original sin • Childbirth will be painful. • Relationships will be marred by sin. • Labor will be carried out with difficulty. • Physical death is inevitable.

  11. Relationship between Creation and Evolution • Pope Pius wrote in 1950: “the faithful cannot embrace that opinion which maintains either after Adam there existed on the erth true men who did not take their origin through natural generation from him as from the first parent of all or that Adam represents a certain number of first parents.
