  2. Participation is mandatory for 4thand5thgraders and optional for K,1,2, &3. Projects are due March 10th at school. Judges will not score late entries.

  3. Science Fair Projects MUST be EXPERIMENTS An experiment is a test to find out something. Experiments are repeated 3 times. 1 2 3

  4. X Judges will not score projects that do not follow the scientific method.

  5. DO NOTMAKE A VOLCANO. x DO NOT MAKE A VOLCANO. THIS IS A DEMONSTRATION. x

  6. DO NOTUSE THE SOLAR SYSTEM. x x DO NOT MAKE A MODEL OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM.

  7. Although eye catching, this is an informational project and not an experiment.

  8. Select a TopicMAKE SURE IT IS A TOPIC YOU CAN INVESTIGATE. Where can I find ideas for Science Fair Projects? Select a topic that genuinely interests you. ?

  9. Watch commercials on TV. Test their claims. Does that deodorant really stop wetness better than another one ? PRODUCTS THAT CLAIM TO BE THE BEST CAN BE COMPARED WITH OTHER PRODUCTS THAT CLAIM TO BE THE BEST.

  10. Think about current events. Look in the newspaper.

  11. Use your experiences. Remember a time you thought "I wonder what would happen if..." then turn that into a project.

  12. Check the science section of our library media center. Browse and look at book titles, then look inside the books that look interesting to you.

  13. Gather Background Information Gather information about your topic from books, magazines, the Internet, people and companies. Keep notes about where you found your information.

  14. What is the PURPOSE? • Why is this a project worth doing? • Why are the results important? • Who would want to know the results?

  15. Use the Scientific Method Question Prediction Materials Procedure Results Conclusion

  16. Question What do I want to find out ?

  17. Hypothesis(Prediction) What do I think will happen ?

  18. Variables The variable is the one factor I wish to change (or use in different amounts). Everything is given the exact same conditions except for one factor. This factor is my variable. I need to explain things I did to make it a controlled experiment. Variables are the things that have an effect on the experiment.

  19. The independent variable is the one condition that you change in the experiment. It is the factor that you are comparing or testing. What may affect the results of my experiment? Choose one variable to change and keep the others the same.

  20. The controlled variables are the conditions that need to remain the same during my experiment so that they do not affect the results.

  21. Materials What will I use ? Mrs. Rosenman’sSecret Formula

  22. Procedure What will I do ? As I plan my experiment, I need to identify the variables.

  23. Results What actually happened ?

  24. Conclusion What did I learn ? Based on my results I learned…

  25. BE CREATIVE and START EARLY What are some examples of great projects?

  26. Keep your project a secret! DO NOT post on Social Media such as Facebook or Twitter.!

  27. Displaying Your Project
