  1. Saturn Vote for Saturn, it has a ring to it! By: Helen, Alena, Meredith, & Macayla

  2. Saturn’s name Saturday is named after Saturn. Saturn is named after Saturnus the roman god of capitol, generation, dissolution, plenty, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal, liberation, and time.

  3. About Saturn: • It’s the second biggest planet in our solar system and a gas GIANT. • Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun. • It was discovered by Galileo in 1610. • Summer on Saturn lasts 8 years (91Earth years!) • Saturn is so light that it could actually float on water and the only planet able to do so.

  4. The facts • Mass: 568.3E24 kg (95.16 x Earth’s mass)(568,319,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg) • Radius: 36,184 miles (58,232 km) • Distance from the Sun: 890,700,000 miles (1,433,000,000 km) • Surface Area: 16.49 billion sq. miles (42.7 billion km²) • Length of day:10h 39m

  5. What is Saturn? • Saturn is mostly made up of helium and hydrogen with traces of methane, ammonia, and water. • Saturn doesn’t have the same crust, mantle, and core makeup that Earth and other rock planets have. • The atmosphere bleeds into Saturn’s “surface” without much distinction.

  6. The Jewel of the solar system • Saturn is nicknamed The Jewel of the Solar System. • God must have liked it because he put a ring on it…or several.

  7. Saturn’s Rings Saturn’s rings aren’t solid, but made up of bits of ice, rock, and dust from passing comets, meteorite impacts on Saturn’s moons, and the planet’s gravity pulling material from the moons. You can see Saturn’s rings at different angles depending on the orbit patterns of Earth and Saturn and because of Saturn’s 29 degree tilt. February October

  8. moons • Saturn’s moons are very diverse and can range from tiny moonlets 1kilometer in diameter to ones bigger than Mercury. • Saturnhas 162 moons, 62 with confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names, and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50 kilometers.

  9. Titan Titan was the first of Saturn’s moons to be discovered. Titan was discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655.

  10. rhea Rhea was discovered by Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1672. Rhea is named after the Titan Rhea from Greek Mythology.

  11. Enceladus • Enceladus is one of Saturn’s moons that are believed to be able to support life! It was discovered in 1789 by William Herschel. While doing an flyby in 2006 Cassini found evidence of water reservoirs that erupt in geysers on Saturn’s moon Enceladus.

  12. Quiz • Which one of Saturn’s moons was the first to be discovered? • Titan B. Rhea C. Enceladus D. Hyperion 2. Who discovered Saturn? • Domenico B. Cassini C. Huygens D.
