  2. MARY AINSWORTH • According to Mary Ainsworth, babies form into different of attachments with their caregiver. • The strength of each of these attachments also depends on a large extent on how sensitive and responsive the care giver is to infant’s needs.

  3. Ainsworth and her colleagues in (1978 ) their research was proposed that there are two main categories of attachment secure and insecure attachment. Ainsworth describe attachment generally in term of three types- secure attachment , resistant attachment and avoidant attachment.

  4. Secure Attachment • An infant who has formed a secure attachment shows a balance between dependence an exploration. • The baby uses the caregiver as a home, or safe base from which to venture and explore unfamiliar environment but show some distress and degrees exploration when the caregiver depart.

  5. when the caregiver returns the infant is enthusiastic and sick physical contact with them. About 65% of one year old securely attached. infant feels secure, loved and confident. • secure attachment infant is playful, curious, sociable and explores.

  6. Avoidant Attachment • The baby does not seek closeness or contact with the caregiver and treat them much like a stranger. • The baby rarely cries when the caregiver leaves the room and ignores the caregiver upon their return. • Research finding suggest this attachment style may be the result of neglectful or abusive caregiver. • About 20% of one-year-olds in this category.

  7. Research finding suggest this attachment style may be the result of neglectful or abusive caregiver. About 20% of one-year-olds in this category.

  8. Resistant Attachment The baby become upset very upset when separated from the caregiver. When the caregiver return, the infants approach them, cries to be picked up, then squirm or fight to get free. This attachment style is thought to result from caregivers who are not very responsive to their babies needs. About 12% of one-years olds are in this category.

  9. She believed the nature of the attachment may if the caregiver substantially changes the way in which they respond to the infants expressed need. Ainsworth found that the pattern of behaviour associated with each type of each attachment tend not to change over time unless there are significant changes in life circumstance for either the caregiver or the infants.

  10. STrANgE situation TEST • Ainsworth research were developed from the findings of research studies with 12-18-month-old babies. • Ainsworth research involved establishing the infants level of security in their relationship with care giver. • The strange situation test involves an experimenter taking a caregiver their infants into an unfamiliar room containing toys. • Stranger anxiety refers to an infants wariness or cautiousness when a stranger such as an unfamiliar adult is present.

  11. Psychology believe that early attachment experience are an important influence in an individual later emotional being, both in the short term and into adulthood. Separation anxiety is indicated by an infants distress when they are separated from their main caregiver.
