  2. Summery • Governments and Major Corporations attempt to remove Anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks • In less than 2 weeks over 1000 “mirror” sites are created in response • WikiLeaks’ supporters stage an attack on MasterCard, Visa and many other targets in retaliation

  3. Ethical Decision-Making • Describe Ethical Issue • Should WikiLeaks be removed from the internet? • Who are the involved parties and what do you believe they want accomplished? • Governments wants WikiLeaks removed immediately • Corporations would like a compromise between governments and supporters of WikiLeaks • WikiLeaks supporters want governments to stop attempting to remove or hinder WikiLeaks • Different Solution • WikiLeaks is removed indefinitely • This is the decision I would chose • WIkiLeaks is allowed to remain without interference • Any stolen information must be remove immediately

  4. Ethical Decision-Making • Solution Evaluation • Anything that could potentially hurt a large amount of people should be removed from the internet • The solution treat people as means rather the ends • Nature of Solution • This solution accord with what safety of people through safety of their government • This solution is excessive in control of freedom of speech • Would this Solution be popular? • This solution would not be popular because most value the freedom of speech and freedom of the internet than the safety of their governments

  5. Ethical Decision-Making • Solution Commitment • I would be fully committed to this solution because of the nature of how the WikiLeaks received its information • This solution is chosen as the final arbiter of the good • Philosophy of Decision • Realism is where my decision falls. The internet is not a perfect concept that should not be regulated or changed. We must understand that the internet has to be govern to protect the majority.

  6. ACM Code of Ethics WikiLeaks Violates • 1.2 – Avoid Harm to Others • 1.7 – Respect the privacy of others • 2.3 – Respect existing laws • 3.1 – Articulate Social Responsibilities Supporters Violates • 1.2 – Avoid Harm to Others • 1.5 – Honor Property Rights
