  3. Is Woods Lake Stratified? Thermally? Chemically? • Woods Lake is thermally stratified because the with an increase in depth, the temperature decreased. • Woods Lake is chemically stratified because of the increased level of pH, chloride, sodium, phosphate that occur below 8 meters.

  8. Does Woods Lake have high nutrient levels? • Woods Lake has high nutrient levels (phosphate) at 8 meters below the surface and deeper. • This is possibly caused by the algae decomposing at the bottom of the lake.

  10. Is there evidence of road salt input at Woods Lake? • The Na and Cl increases at 8 meters and below. • Salt water is more dense than fresh water.

  11. How might the water chemistry affect the lake ecosystem? • There is not as much dissolved oxygen in the water. • Fresh water species that are sensitive to salt water will be affected. • There is no dimictic turnover in the lake.

  12. Have humans impacted the water chemistry at Woods Lake? If so, how? • Humans have impacted the water because of the increased level of sodium, phosphate, chloride and pH. • Storm sewers overflowing, road salt, lawn fertilizers and clippings. Overflow from the retention ponds and increased level of rainfall also influences this.
