  1. Welcome to Ms. Izquierdo and Ms. Littman’s Classes Open House 2014-15 School Year

  3. Your child will need the daily use of a laptop, desktop or tablet computer that can access the internet. A majority of Reading/ Language Arts home learning will involve access to the student portal. Your smart phone will not be able to run these programs!

  4. Grades WARNING: • Third grade is DIFFICULT, VERY DIFFICULT! • The academic jump from 2nd to 3rd Grade is ENORMOUS! • Expect your child’s grades to fall at first! They will have to work harder to accomplish the same grades they received in 2nd.

  5. Home Learning • 30 minutes reading every day, (Reading Plus counts towards the 30 minutes)! • Practice multiplication facts EVERY night for at least 10 minutes • Mon. Tue. Ms. Izquierdo will give the Home Learning. • Wed. Thurs. & Fri. Ms. Littman will give the Home Learning. • Please check over your child’s Home Learning as it reflects what is being taught in class.

  6. Student Portal • Login through Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox • www.dadeschools.net • ALL students can login! • Username and passwords are in their home learning folder. • Access to all programs and gradebook • PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE • THE PASSWORDS!

  7. Reading Plus • Login on the student portal • Required 3 ibalance, 3 read around and 3 see reader • Increase reading fluency and comprehension • Must be done on the computer or tablet

  8. Edmodo • Found on the student portal • Student’s username and passwords are in their home learning folder • I will post notes and power point presentations pertaining to class lessons • Students can check here for spelling and vocabulary words if they are absent on Mondays. • I will post Power Point presentations on how to access programs.

  9. Discovery Education • Available through the student portal • Students will be required to watch videos and take assessments for home learning assignments

  10. Florida Standards Assessment • Administered in March or April • Mandatory retention in 3rd grade still applies • Reading comprehension, grammar, spelling and vocabulary • Multiple choice and short answer • Pencil- Paper testing • Questions with more than one correct answer

  12. Technology/ Testing Informational Meeting for 3rd Grade Parents • Coming in October probably on a Tuesday night • New Florida Standards Assessment and How they will be tested • All the programs available to students on their student portal and how to access and use them

  13. PTA & JDG FACEBOOK • PTA membership is $7.00 • JDG has a facebook page with up to date information • JDG PTA website is www.jackgordonpta.com • There is also a JDG app
