  2. What Makes America Great? • America has abundant natural resources. • The United States has a variety of resources. • The United States is a leading agricultural producer.

  3. Down on the Farm • 3% of the U.S. population farms • The U.S. produces enough food to feed itself and export the excess. • America’s large land area, wide variety of soils and climates helps its farming industry.

  4. The Resources • The Great Plains produce foods such as corn, soybeans and wheat. • The soils of the River valleys are ideal for farming. • 33% of the U.S. is forested.

  5. Water! • The U.S. exports hydroelectricity. • America’s abundant water is also ideal for all types of fishing.

  6. Energy and Mineral Resources • The U.S. holds 25% of the world’s coal reserves. • The U.S. produces large quantities of oil but must still import most of what it needs.

  7. Where is this stuff? • Oil is found along the gulf coast TX and LA. • Iron is abundant in MN, MI and AL • Lead and Zinc- ID, MO • Copper- AZ • Gold and Silver - NV
