  3. in·no·va·tion • TECHNOLOGY: ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY BY VENDORS ALWAYS EVOLVING: • NOT ALWAYS HELPFUL OR NECESSARY IN A GOVERNMENT ENVIROMENT. • IT OFTEN CREATES PROBLEMS THAT WERE NEVER ANTICIPATED MUCHLESS PLANNED FOR: • CLOUD COMPUTING: AGAIN A GREAT EXAMPLE OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION THAT CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT IS FIXING RIGHT NOW.

FORTUNE 100 / 1000 COMPANIES THAT RAN TO EMBRACE THIS NEW PARIDIME ARE NOW ROLLING BACK AND RE-ISSUING DEVICES TO THEIR EMPLOYEES. • WHAT THEY FOUND WAS WHILE THEY DID REALIZE THE PROJECTED SAVINGS THAT SHIFT PROMISED • THE SAVINGS AND THEN SOME WERE EATEN UP BY THE BACK END COSTS OF SECURING AND MANAGING THE WIDE VARIETY OF DEVICES. • NOT TO MENTION THE PERSONAL PROBLEMS AS THE TECHNOLOGY WASN’T QUITE WHAT / WHERE IT NEEDED TO BE. WIPE MEANT FULL-WIPE THE WHOLE DEVICE. • INNOVATION CONTAINERIZED DEPLOYMENT.

Examples 0f Innovation from the Public Sector • Large Jurisdiction • Alachua County ITS Department • Award: Development: Best Application Serving a Public Organization's Business Needs • The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners Information & Telecommunication Services (“ITS”) Department approached the SOE office about creating a solution for them. • The ITS Department sat down with SOE and came up with a plan to create a custom, web-based, training software package for free, to provide to the SOE office. • The SOE stated emphatically that they needed the most user-friendly training system that ITS could develop.

With just a few taps, a user can now view live or archived Board meetings from their Smartphone or tablet. • Another central service is a section highlighting all of the county-maintained places
