  2. Statement of Purpose “CAVR Certification designation recognizes and promotes through the certification process excellence in the administration of volunteer resources based on national standards of professionalism.” CAVR Certification Committee - 2005

  3. Definition of “Standard”as defined in the Webster Dictionary A “Standard” is defined as something set up and established as a rule for measuring or as a model to be followed.

  4. Purpose of “Standards” • To provide basic guidelines for administering volunteer resources • To encourage professionalism & quality measures • To establish sound management practices

  5. Why should I Certify or Re-Certify?

  6. Top 5 Reasons to Certify… • A sense of accomplishment • Enhanced professional development • Recognizing your potential • Raise the profile of your position within your organization • Proudly carry the CAVR designation

  7. Top 5 Reasons to Re-Certify… • A sense of continued accomplishment • Enhanced professional development • Fulfilling your potential • Maintain the profile of your position within your organization • Continue to proudly carry the CAVR designation

  8. Certification Criteria • Member in good standing with CAVR • Working in the profession of Volunteer Management • Your work history • Write your personal philosophy

  9. Certification criteria continued… • Demonstrated leadership • Professional development hours • Two papers • Current trends & issues • Choice of Criteria

  10. Re-Certification Criteria • Member in good standing with CAVR • Professional development hours • One paper on one of the following topics… • Current challenges in the field of Volunteer Administration OR, • Biggest challenge in administering volunteers and how you overcame it.

  11. Are you Ready? Next Steps… 1. Become a member of CAVR or renew your membership 2. Go to www.cavr.org to download certification or recertification package or receive package from CAVR Certification Chair 3. If Certifying, contact Certification Chair to receive an ID# and if you wish, request a Mentor 4. Ensure all requirements are met in the certification or re-certification criteria before proceeding

  12. Next steps (continued)… 5. Send completed package & application fee to CAVR Chair of Certification 6. Must be postmarked no later than December 31st (Recertification) or February 28th (Certification) 7. Papers distributed & reviewed by CAVR markers 8. Certification awarded at National Conference in the presence of your peers and colleagues

  13. Tips for keeping on track • Keep anything related to your certification or recertification into a file for easy retrieval at a later date • Take a “Professional Development” record to every workshop you attend and get signature • Get involved in volunteer work either on a committee or a board • Register “your intent” and get an ID# & mentor as this will commit you to keep on going
