  3. A ratio is a comparison of 2 quantities using division. Any number that can be expressed as a ratio is called a rational number. Quick Review…

  4. So what numbers are rational? • All fractions • All whole numbers • All terminating decimals • All repeating decimals

  5. How can a number be expressed as a ratio? • All fractions are ratios.

  6. To write a whole number as a ratio, divide it by 1. • Example:

  7. A terminating decimal can be written as a fraction. • Example: • 0.8362= • A decimal is ‘named’ after the smallest place it occupies.

  9. A percent is a ratio of a number to 100. This symbol: % indicates a percent. For example, 40% is the ratio 40 to 100, or .

  10. Write Percents as Fractions Write 35% as a fraction in simplest form. 35% = = Write the percent as a fraction with a denominator of 100. Simplify.

  11. Writing Percents as Decimals Write 43% as a decimal. 43% = = 0.43 Write the percent as a fraction with a denominator of 100. Write the fraction as a decimal.
