  17. GigaCenter Carrier Class Wi-Fi

  18. What is GigaCenter Carrier Class Wi-Fi? • 802.11ac is just the starting point

  19. 5GHz: More Spectrum, More Flexibility 5GHz spectrum advantages • 5Ghz has 22 channels (440 MHz); 2.4GHz has 3 channels (60 MHz) • 2.4GHz is congested and there is no where to hop to-it’s all congested! • 5GHz spectrum clean and there are channels to hop to if interference is encountered • 2.4GHz is limited, in practice, to 20 MHz channels, 5GHz has 40 and 80 MHz channels that support much higher speeds

  20. Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) • GigaCenters are DFS Certified by the FCC • DFS frequencies are high end beachfront property • Lots of capacity, free from interference • DFS certification means able to avoid radar and other interferers • Products that are not DFS certified have limited channel capacity as they can’t operate in the DFS spectrum band • DFS frequencies

  21. 5 GHz Carrier Class Coverage GigaCenters provide whole home coverage • Whole home coverage from anywhere in the house • Maximum Wi-Fi power level allowed by the FCC • Eliminates or sharply reduces need to wire inside homes • Dynamic beamforming reaches clients at the edges of the house Field Test: 3700 Square foot house will have full coverage with GigaCenter 4X4, competitor’s 3X3 will leave 500 square feet uncovered

  22. 3,700 square feet GigaCenter wall mounted in corner of lowest level GigaCenter TCP Test Results • 3 level wood frame house, concrete first floor

  23. 1st Floor TCP Throughput Test Results • Wall mounted GigaCenter, First Floor • 5GHz 802.11ac, 80 MHz channel, 4X4 MIMO

  24. 2nd Floor TCP Throughput Test Results • GigaCenter located in basement • 5GHz 802.11ac, 80 MHz channel, 4X4 MIMO

  25. 3rd Floor TCP Throughput Test Results • GigaCenter located in basement • 5GHz 802.11ac, 80 MHz channel, 4X4 MIMO

  26. Dynamic Beamforming • Beamforming • GigaCenters utilize 4X4 MIMO dynamic beamformingto concentrate Wi-Fi energy on clients at the edge of the house in remote bedrooms, offices and basements • 8 beamforming clients supported simultaneously • Beamforming supported to all 802.11ac set tops and smart TVs, tablets and smartphones, as well as 802.11n Quantenna set tops Dynamic Beamforming GigaCenter

  27. Multi-User MIMO Support • Increases throughout in multi-client networks • The GigaCenter sends separate and simultaneous spatial streams to multiple clients • Enables efficient use of the Wi-Fi channel even with clients that have no MIMO capability • MU-MIMO is an 802.11ac Wave 2 feature supported in the current GigaCenter hardware • Software to support this feature will be available in a coming release

  28. GigaCenter Wi-Fi Ecosystem • Ready for the coming 802.11ac home network • 802.11ac client devices • 802.11ac is now commonly found in laptops and tablets, with several new smart phones also including 802.11ac, including the new iPhone 6 • Arris, Pace and Cisco IPTV set tops currently support Quantenna 802.11n at 5Ghz, these set tops can support many of the Carrier Class features supported on the GigaCenter • All of the major set top vendors will be introducing 802.11ac set tops, many with Quantenna 4X4 in 2015

  29. GigaCenter SSID Management • Quality of Service (QOS) • The GigaCenter 5GHz radio has a Wi-Fi QoS feature that can be assigned to specific SSIDs, for example the IPTV SSID is prioritized over best effort internet services • Number of SSIDs • The GigaCenter features 8 SSIDs at 5 GHz and 8 SSIDs at 2.4 GHz. Two in each band are for the consumer and six are assigned to the service provider. The service provider can utilize the six in any way, including providing additional SSIDs to the consumer • Service Provider SSID Uses • Management SSID for outside access, neighborhood hotspots, utility meter collection, etc.

  30. Advanced Wi-Fi Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Consumer Connect and GigaCenter Embedded Web Interface

  31. Common Wi-Fi Deployment Challenges • Airtime Congestion: • Too much traffic for the capacity of the channel • Poor Signal Strength: • The client is located either too far away from the GigaCenteror behind a barrier that attenuates the signal. • Interference: • Competing wireless signals that overlap or adjacent channel interference. Sources may be other Wi-Fi devices or non-Wi-Fi devices, such as microwave ovens or cordless phones • Interoperability issues: • Trouble free Wi-Fi requires more than just good radios, GigaCenter and client interoperability issues will arise

  32. Consumer Connect Support Module • Available in late 2014 • Diagnose and troubleshoot • WiFi connection quality scores • Power level - Noise level – Phy Rate - Data throughput - Dropped packets - Re-tried packets • WAN / LAN / Host troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, reboot, reset) • Recommended actions for problem resolution • Configure • WAN – Host – LAN – WiFi – Downloads

  33. Compass and GUI Troubleshooting Tools • Is the channel congested? • Total Channel Utilization Time • Interference Time • Free Time • Per Client use of air time (BW hog) • Is the Client in a poor location? • Channel Capacity per STA for Tx and Rx • Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) from STA Rx and AP Rx per STA • Is the channel plagued by interference? • Interference Time • Retransmission Rate • Is the site crowded, is there a better channel to pick?

  34. Wireless Network Analyzer • Key Feature • Service provider access only through CMS or GUI • Provides overview of Wi-Fi channels • Channel Utilization and Interference time shown (in %)

  35. Wireless Network Status • Key Feature • Per SSID View • Provides overview of SSID parameters • Shows clients connected to SSID with signal strength and data rate supported
