  2. Background 1962 Duke of Edinburgh – What memorial? …“something like a Rhodes Scholarship but available to all on a much wider basis”. Churchill died: Jan 24 1965. Sunday 28 Feb 1965 – Australia Memorial Day. Netted 4.3 million Pounds!
  3. Aim of the Churchill Trust “… to give opportunity, by the provision of financial support, to enable Australians from all walks of life who, having exhausted opportunities within Australia, desire to further their search for excellence overseas.” Benefit to Australia is a significant factor.
  4. Selection of Churchill Fellows No prescribed qualifications, academic or otherwise, for award of Churchill Fellowships. Merit is the primary test: Based on past achievements, or Demonstrated ability for future achievement Any walk of life. Value of the applicant’s work to the Community. Extent to which overseas travel will enhance

Churchill Fellows diverse as: establishment of a liver cell bank. the Neighborhood Watch and Crime Stoppers program. occupational health and safety on farms and farm forestry. strategies to prevent credit card fraud. study of baroque music. childhood obesity. people trafficking and criminal gangs. physiotherapy in circuses. programs for ‘at risk’ and underage adolescents. palliative care and nursing training.

GRIEVE, Stephen 2008 To study the design of sustainable arts and cultural facilities in regional centres - Norway, France, UK, Greece, Luxembourg. LYNN , Victoria 2008 To ascertain the impact of emerging technologies on new curatorial models and events - Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, UK.
  8. Museums, Galleries and Libraries MATHIESON, Renae 2008 To investigate the use of new technologies to attract and retain audiences - U.K., France, Spain, USA, Singapore. SMITH, Alan 2008 The Professor Jean Primrose Whyte Churchill Fellowship to investigate management philosophies and strategies in creating significant cultural change in National Libraries - UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland. TAO, Kim 2008 The Peter Mitchell Churchill Fellowship to study strategies for building sustainable partnerships between museums and culturally diverse communities - U.K., Canada, USA.
  9. Application for Churchill Fellowship Written applications accepted: Nov – Feb yearly. Most are State / Territory based. 30 short-listed for Interview. Final State / Territory recommended list compiled: National Board of Directors for final consideration. Announced in July of each year. Commence travel from Sept of that year.
  10. Churchill Fellowship Prestige of being a Churchill Fellow. Opportunity to enhance work overseas. Overseas travel: 4-8 weeks. Air Travel expenses. A variable allowance to assist expenses. Possible assistance with cost of fees or admission to and tuition at any institution. Approximate value: $25,000.
