  3. A History of Improvement • 1963-1964: Airport conceived by a group of community leaders. Land was purchased and construction completed • Original runway 60’ x 3500’ • 1978: runway, taxiway, and apron were resurfaced • 2000: an office with restroom added • 2006: runway was extended to 75’ x 4001’

  4. Recent Improvements Since 2012 • Re-built runway • Added new runway lighting • Enhanced entrance with new sign & landscaping • Facility enhancement - landscaping • Re-wired the terminal • Precision Approach Position Indicator (PAPI) installed • Painted hangers • Obstruction clearance • In processing of purchasing additional land and air rights • Will allow to get instrument approach

Economic ImpactNC Airports • $26 billion annual economic contribution. • 108,850 jobs are supported by 72 publically owned airports throughout NC. • Provides connectivity between NC and global markets, connecting people and businesses around the world. • Linking the global economy generates economic activity, commerce, & tourism. • Direct: result from firms that are directly engaged in the movement of people or goods through an airport. • Indirect: spending by airport-related firms on products and services provided by support businesses. • Induced: result from payroll expenditures of employees of direct- and indirect-related firms that produce successive spending.

  8. Aviation Means Business Recent studies have shown the importance of airports in the attraction and retention of businesses in local communities. Airports (to a client) mean: access to global markets, and connectivity to people and goods. Commercial and general aviation airports are closely evaluated when a business examines sites for new manufacturing operations and corporate headquarters. Communities with access to aviation services are at a significant advantage.

TIMCO Aviation Services • Recently acquired by HAECO • Triad’s largest aviation employer. • Occupies more than 600,000 sq. ft. at PTI. • Employees 1500, considering an expansion that would add 400 jobs. TIMCO Aviation Services is one of the world's largest independent aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) providers. TIMCO supports leading global airlines, governments and aircraft leasing companies with comprehensive, individually-tailored aircraft care services.

Improvements Needed • Instrument approach- scheduled to be completed 2014 • Completed! • Build new terminal • Need to accommodate corporate customers • serve as a location for county functions. • The state will match funds 50/50 • Extend runway to 5000’ • Currently, the airport can accommodate turbine powered aircraft, additional length would accommodate business jets. • Parallel taxiway • Credit card fuel payment system

  24. Why Improve? Not aesthetics, logistics. Montgomery County offers a successful business climate due to the ease of logistics. An airport that meets basic business standards is required to continue to be competitive for new and expanding business. • Business can succeed here because of access to key east coast markets. • Reasonable drive times • Interstate access • Excellent Highway and Interstate Connectivity • I 73/74 • Hwy 24/27 • Hwy 109 • The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway covers a majority of the county. • Connects to Class 1 carriers: CSX & Norfolk Southern. • Transloading service
