Authors Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo challenge their readers to avoid men who: • Keep them waiting by the phone • Are not sure they want a relationship • Make them feel sexually undesirable • Drink or do drugs to an extent it makes them uncomfortable • Fear talking about the future • Are married

  7. He’s just not that into you Gigi and Alex Chapter 2 - He’s just not that into you if he’s not calling you… • Gigi is a single woman who repeatedly misreads mundane actions and comments from her dates as indications they are romantically interested in her. She panics when the guy she is interested doesn’t call. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TlVAYDwLkw&feature=related • In attempting to meet Connor at a bar, she befriends the bar owner Alex (Justin Long) who reveals the strategies men use to avoid a woman. He explains that if a man is interested in a woman, he will overcome any obstacles to ensure they date again, and that Gigi has been misinterpreting and obsessing over imagined "signs" she receives from men. This friendship continues and Gigi interprets his eagerness to always assist as a “crush”. Alex claims he is not interested in her romantically. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epTlozbmC2c&feature=related • Gigi has moved on from Alex, no longer desperately trying to construct evidence the man is interested in her. However, in a role reversal, Alex has become obsessed with Gigi. After leaving several unanswered messages Alex arrives at Gigi's apartment to declare his love, and they begin a relationship.

  12. Cohabitation increased by nearly 40 percent over the late 1990s and early 2000s ( Lichter, Sassler, & Turner, 2009). • Some people may feel that living together is enough, and don’t see the point of getting married if they all ready live together • Some people also believe that getting married might “jinx” the relationship Newcomb, P. (1979) Cohabitation in America: An Assessment of Consequences. Journal of Marriage and Family, 41(3), 597-603 Lichter, D., Sassler, S. & Turnera, R. (2010) National Estimates in the rise of serial cohabitation. Social Science Research, 39(5), 754-765.

  13. Our feelings & critique… • Stories are based on individual’s personal experiences. (fabricated in the film-to appease the audiences’ societal norms/standards) • Although the self help book is a Best Seller, people question it’s reliability. • No one person is the same when it comes to love, marriage & cohabitation! • Book needs a more concise theory & more data based on scholarly research.
