  1. Cinquain A cinquain is a five-line poem, named from the French word for five which is cinq.

  2. Cinquain The format for writing a cinquain is as follows: Line 1: Write a noun. Person, Place, Thing, Idea

  3. Cinquain Line 2: Write 2 adjectives that describe the noun. {Place a comma between the two adjectives.} What kind? Which one? How many? How much? Whose?

  4. Cinquain Line 3: Write three verbs {or verb forms} that tell what the noun does. {Place commas between verbs.}

  5. Cinquain Line 4: Write a thought about the noun – a phrase, clause, or sentence.

  6. Cinquain Line 5: Write the noun again OR write a synonym for the noun.

  9. Shopping Shopping is boring. Shopping is like going to the dentist’s office. Shopping is a pain. There are never enough parking spaces. People crowd the aisles. People fight for stuff. People take my money. I would rather stay at home.

  10. Music Music makes me laugh. Some music makes me cry. Music is a friend to help you through difficult times. Music makes my feet tap and my hands clap. Music is energy when I am tired. Music is the school chorus, the church choir, the step team. Music is the 3:30 dismissal bell.

  11. Present Participles • Present Participles end in –ing. • Examples • Chasing the cat, the dog ran down the street. {Chasing is the present participle of the verb chase. The participle modifies the noun dog.}

  12. Diamond Poem A diamond poem is a seven-line descriptive poem that is formed in the shaped of a diamond.

  13. Line 1: Write a subject (one or two words). Line 2: Write two adjectives describing the subject. Line 3: Write three participles describing actions of the subject. Line 4: Write four nouns associated with the subject. Line 5: Write three participles showing a change occurring in the subject. Line 6: Write two adjectives describing the altered subject.
