  6. Penthouse • Located on the top floor of a building. • Great views. • Often have access to roof top gardens and pools. • Usually the most expensive.

  11. Garden Apartments • Ground floor. • Can cost less. • Often able to walk straight out into a garden or onto a lawn.

  16. Efficiency Apartment • The smallest of the apartments. • Usually everything is in one room with a small bath and kitchen. • If rooms are divided it is usually by a screen, curtain, or a step. • Often in large cities where square footage is at a premium price.

  22. Attached: Townhouse • A home that is attached to adjacent houses. • Combines the best amenities of a single-family home and a condominium. • Ownership usually includes the townhouse and the land that it is on.

  25. Freestanding: Single-Family Houses • Single-family homes allow the owners to have more privacy. • Families can have a yard and do not have people living above or below them. • Can you think of any other benefits of living in a single-family home?

  26. Freestanding: Custom Built Home • A home that is designed by an architect and built by a contractor to meet the needs of an individual family. • The home is unique • The home is more costly than other homes • Often take longer to build

  27. Freestanding: Owner-Built Home • The building of the home is supervised by the owner. • Owners need knowledge of building and lots of personal time and energy • The owner can but does not necessarily do their own work

  33. Modular Homes • Built in sections • Put together on a foundation like a puzzle on property owned by the homeowners • Benefits include: • Does not get rained on during construction • Less waste in the building process • Less expensive

  37. Manufactured/Mobile Homes • Homes that are completely built in a factory and moved on wheels to a piece of land that is rented (mobile home park) or owned. • Can be moved to another location • Can be single wide or double wide

Assignment: Housing Options Graphic Organizer • Using a sheet of paper, list all of the multi-family housing options on 1 side and all of the single-family options on the second side. • Create a graphic organizer that compares the similarities and differences of each housing option. • Use construction paper to create a poster that contains your graphic organizer and information.
