  2. Phil. 4:11 “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:”

  3. Phil. 4:12 “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.”

  4. Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

  5. I. The Realm of Contentment It is not satisfaction It is not suppression of desire Learning to live with the changes of life without worry and anxiety.

  6. 1 Tim. 6:6-8 6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

  7. 1 Tim. 6:9 asv "desire" “But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.”

  8. 1 Tim. 6:10 asv “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

  9. “Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.” Heb. 13:5

  12. II. The Realm of Discontentment Sinful to be contented with: 1. Own Shortcomings 2. Sufferings of others 3. Ignorance of others

  13. Rom. 1:14-15 “I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.”

  14. Rom. 10:1 “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.”

  15. Cannot have contentment with: • Number of members • Attendance at services • Knowledge of God’s Word • Interest in one another • Giving

  16. Contentment Pray: “Lord, help us be content with the material and unimportant things, and help us be discontent with the spiritual and really important things.”
