  1. CHEE 450 : Design Project Insulin

  2. Procedures Each Group of 3 (one group of 4), will look at how their given procedure operates, this means - How / Why does it work - Why is it needed in the process/what does it do - What are the appropriate design variables - Who are the suppliers, how much does it cost - What is the final design Groups are expected to write a short technical report (5 page max), and give a 5 min presentation on how the procedure works, how it fits into the process, and the costs associated with it.

  3. SuperPro SuperPro does not have many of the relevant parameters required for intricate design of the units

  4. SuperPro II For SuperProyou require some familiarity of how the procedure will operate. You can get from doing some background research of the procedure. From this background, it is then possible to pick out the relevant design parameters in SuperPro. Finally, use your knowledge of the process to change the relevant parameters meaningfully and see if that affects the overall process, or the outputs of your procedure.

  5. Tips Don’t use SuperPro as your sole source of information on yourprocedure. Start early, it is generally easy to get a basic understanding of the procedure, however the design is usually more complicated. Give yourself as much time as possible to contact vendors/companies to get information on your procedure.

  6. Project Procedures • Overview of the Process • Air Filtration • IB solubilization • Centrifugation • Diafiltration • Dead End Filter • Rotary Evaporator • Gel Filtration • Enzyme Conversion* • Basket Centrifuge • S-Sepharose • Homogenization • HIC column • Refolding • RP-HPLC • Crystallization
