  6. January: Important Dates • Monday, Jan. 6th: Revolution Prep SAT prep course begins at MBHS. • Tuesday, Jan. 7th: College Night at MBHS (thank you for coming!)

January What students are doing What parents can be doing • Advisory Workshops: • Resumes • College Research cont’d • SAT prep (if taking SAT instead of ACT) • Studying for and taking Regents • Working hard in classes • Support students in accomplishing goals listed at left • Discuss your family’s college goals (dreams/concerns) to help guide your child in further college research

  8. February: Important Dates • Friday, Feb. 7th: SAT registration deadline for the March 8th SAT date (www.collegeboard.org) • Fee waivers • Feb. 15th-21st Midwinter Recess

February What students are doing What parents can be doing • Advisory Workshops: • College Research: balanced lists • Naviance • Finalize resumes • Working hard in classes • Continue prep for SAT. If taking ACT, prepare for test prep. • Thinking ahead: Internships, summer jobs, summer programs • Visit college(s) over break • Support students in accomplishing goals listed at left • Make sure your child is registered for the Mar. 8th SAT (deadline: Feb. 7th) • Discuss summer plans • Visit colleges over break (near or far) • Info about campus tours/info sessions found on college websites • Sign up for official college meeting with me

March: Important Dates • Monday, March 3rd: Revolution Prep ACT test prep course begins at MBHS • Friday, March 7th: ACT registration deadline for April 12th ACT test date (www.act.org) • Fee waivers • Saturday, March 8th: SAT test administration • Thursday, March 20th: Financial Aid Night (6:30pm at MBHS)

  12. April: Important Dates • Sunday, April 6th: New York National College Fair at Javits Center • Friday, April 11th: College Visit Day • Saturday, April 12th: ACT test administration • April 12-22 Spring Break

All info on college websites

  14. May: Important Dates • Friday, May 9th: Registration deadline for June 7th SAT II Subject Test dates (www.collegeboard.org) • Research to see if colleges of interest require them • Fee waivers • Tuesday, May 20th: Colleges That Change Lives Fair and Info Session at Hotel Penn in NYC

May What students are doing What parents can do • Advisory Workshops • Common Application • College Essays • College Research cont’d • Drafting one college essay • Working hard in classes • Taking an AP exam (if in an AP course) • Thinking about which teachers they will ask to write recommendations • Support students in accomplishing goals listed at left • If taking SAT IIs, make sure your child is registered for the June 7th date (deadline: May 9th) • Encourage students to attend CTCL college fair on May 20th

  16. June: Important Dates • Saturday, June 7th: SAT II test date • Monday, June 16th: College Essay and Common Application draft due to Mrs. Gibbons • Thursday, June 26th: Last day of school

Summertime What students are doing What parents can do • Visiting as many colleges on your list as possible • Committing themselves to their summer internship, job or program • Starting to prep for the SAT or ACT (to take a 2nd time) • Revising college lists as they visit schools/continue to research • Support students in accomplishing goals listed at left • Help plan college visits

College Visit 1-2-3’s • Go on college’s website and read section on visiting campus • Register for campus tour and info session (not all colleges require registration) • Call admissions offices to inquire about overnight visits • Sign up for interview on campus (if offered) • Continue to be in contact with colleges of interest (email, call, thank you letter, etc.)

Summer Internships COLLEGE READINESS LEARNING outcomes • Aligned to Common Core Learning Standards • Write informative/explanatory texts, including scientific procedures/ experiments, or technical processes • Gather information from multiple sources • Assess the strengths and limitations of each source • Synthesize information from a range of sources • Distinguish between correlation and causation
