  1. Triastara, K., Ismiarto, Y. D., Hidajat, N. N. Department Of Orthopaedics & Traumatology Faculty Of Medicine Universitas Padjajaran Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung 2013 Comparison of Oxford Knee Score in Schatzker Type VI Fractures Treated with ORIF Dual Plates and ORIF Single Plate

  2. Introduction • Schatzker type VI: tibial plateau fracture with separation of the metaphysis from the diaphysis • Treatment of type VI: ideal treatment still controversial  dual plates or single plate

  3. Oxford Knee Score: • A patientreportedoutcomequestionnaire, validated for use in assessing surgical or non-surgical therapies applied to those suffering from issues with the knee. • Consists of 12 questions covering function and pain associated with the knee in the last four weeks. • Benefit: short, practical, reliable, valid and sensitive to clinically important changes over time.

  4. Oxford Knee Score Q’s 1. How would you describe the pain you usually have from your knee? 2. For how long have you been able to walk before the pain in your knee became severe (with or without a walking aid)? 3. After a meal (sat at a table), how painful has it been for you to stand up from a chair because of your knee? 4. Have you been troubled by pain from your knee in bed at night? 5. How much has pain from your knee interfered with your usual work, including housework? 6. Could you walk down a flight of stairs? 7. Have you been limping when walking, because of your knee? 8. Have you felt that your knee might suddenly ‘give way’ or let you down? 9. Could you kneel down and get up again afterwards? 10. Have you had any trouble with washing and drying yourself (all over) because of your knee? 11. Have you had any trouble getting in and out of a car or using public transport because of your knee? 12. Could you do the household shopping on your own?

  5. Grading for the Oxford Knee Score • Score 0 to 19- Poor • Score 20 to 29 - Fair • Score 30 to 39 - Good • Score 40 to 48- Excellent

  6. Aim of the Study • To comparethe functional outcome of Schatzker type VI tibial plateau fractures treated with ORIF dual plates and ORIF single plate, evaluated using Oxford Knee Score

  7. Material and Methods • January 2011 – September 2012 12 Schatzker VI patients

  8. Material and Methods

  9. Material and Methods • The functional outcome was evaluated according to the Oxford Knee Score criteria on follow up. • Analysis using Spearmann correlation test.

  10. Results

  11. Results Analysis using spearmann correlation test  p= 0.622

  12. Results

  13. Results

  14. Discussion • The goal is to achive anatomical reduction, good metadiaphyseal alignment, and good functional results • In this study, there were no significant difference of the OKS between dual plates group and single plate group

  15. Discussion • Patients with articular step off > 2mm result in low OKS, which is different than the study of Prasad et al who reported that 2-4 mm of articular step off do not influence the knee function.

  16. Conclusion • No significant difference of Oxford Knee Score between the dual plates group and single plate group. • Good articular reduction is important to achieve good functional outcome of the knee.

  17. Thank you...
