  1. Mrs. Coulson’s Class4th Grade NewsletterNovember 2012 Reading: We are currently working on our Literature Circle reading and jobs. Talk with your child each week about what chapters they are responsible for reading and what is their job for the week. Their job should be completely filled out before returning for our discussion group on Fridays. Examples of each job should be in their Literature Circle folders that should come home on Mondays. We will resume Reading Groups after Thanksgiving. Math: Math SOL 4.4 In Mrs. Mason’s room, the students began learning long division. They will review the properties of multiplication as they relate to division. Please continue to review multiplication facts. Science: Science SOL 4.2, 4.9Our unit on Force, Motion, and Energy is in full swing. We are currently learning about Electricity. This includes static electricity and heat, light and mechanical energy. We will learn about electrons, insulators, conductors, circuits and magnets. We will explore Virginia’s natural resources. We will end the unit learning about some famous scientists. VA Studies: VS.5 In Virginia Studies, we will learn the role of Virginia in the American Revolution. We will learn why the colonies went to war with Great Britain, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence. We will learn the roles of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and James Lafayette. We will also learn the importance of the Battle of the Great Bridge, the ride of Jack Jouett, and the American victory at Yorktown.
