Once upon a time, a long time ago in Maastricht, social work educators began to talk together…. MACESS….here’s where the planning began in 1992. Collecting people from the Villa was a difficult task for Nol in those days. And in 1994 we persuaded our first students onto MACESS.

  1. Once upon a time, a long time ago in Maastricht, social work educators began to talk together…

  2. MACESS….here’s where the planning began in 1992

  3. Collecting people from the Villa was a difficult task for Nol in those days

  4. And in 1994 we persuaded our first students onto MACESS

  5. Even the teachers had a lot to learn,

  6. Networking always involved lots of food…

  7. And drink – deals were struck over a beer!

  8. It wasn’t all just work – there were lots of laughs too!

  9. Many MACESS students and Alumni came to yearly meetings

  10. Through the years, we’ve seen new institutional logos

  11. Sometimes not all went to plan!

  12. We’ve survived mergers….

  13. Then in 2005 we celebrated 10 years of MACESS in the Treaty Hall…

  14. Nol invited lots of MACESS friends

  15. …and VIPs to help us celebrate….

  16. by giving lectures and speeches

  17. and we think Nol was very happy that day

  18. Until he questioned Esping Andersen about his typology!

  19. We saw ten years come and go (along with Nol’s moustache!)

  20. After seventeen years - time to move on….. It has been a real pleasure to work with you, Nol. We believe we have built something very special in MACESS, with a strong course team and network to guide us and some amazing students and Alumni to inspire us. We wish you well in your new career and are pleased you will not be too far from the MACESS team, so we can draw on your wisdom from time to time. Thank you for the hard work, the fun and the support And our very best wishes for a successful time ahead.
