BES Picture Books. 2018-2019. The award seeks to promote literacy and lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality, contemporary literature. Students must read a minimum of 8 of the 15 picture books and/or 3 of the 10 chapter books and/or 3 of the 10 graphic novels to vote.

  3. Considerations in Selection • Kid-appeal counts • Represent a variety of genres and cultural perspectives • Balance of fiction and nonfiction • Words and illustrations should complement each other • Books should connect to curricular areas We encourage book suggestions from other MASL members
