Meet Miss Johnson • Fairfield University, CT • BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Law and Business Management • Monmouth University, NJ • MAT in Early Childhood and Elementary Education • Taught: Preschool, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and Academic Support • Teaching Philosophy: • Every child can learn when they are provided with the proper tools and environment. • Contact info: Kristen.johnson@woodbridge.k12.nj.us

  3. Expectations • Come to school prepared and ready to listen and learn. • Have all class work and homework completed. • Be respectful and follow classroom and school rules. • Always try your best! • Treat others the way you want to be treated.

  4. Daily Work • All work should be completed neatly each day. • Incomplete or sloppy class work will be completed for homework. • Extra work will be provided for those students who need reinforcement or enrichment.

  5. Homework • Homework will be given Monday through Thursday (sometimes Friday). • Homework will typically consist of: • Math Homelink • Daily reading (20-25 minutes a night) reading logs beginning Monday September 22. • They must be returned every Friday (or last day of the week if there is a Holiday) • Journeys practice book page or worksheet. • Occasionally Science/Social Studies/ Health worksheet • Students who hand in 100% homework for the month will attend a homework club lunch with me! Please be sure to send your child in with his/her own lunch (or students who receive hot lunch will pick it up) and I will provide a healthy snack.

  6. Behavior Monitoring • Pink:Wow! Exceptionally great students will be moved to “outstanding.” These students have exceeded our classroom rules and have shown remarkable behavior. • Blue: “Good day!” These students have shown good behavior throughout the day. They have proven themselves to be on the road to an “Outstanding” day. • Green: Each student will start their day with their clip on ”ready to learn.” This means that they have shown they were ready to work throughout the day and have followed the class rules and showing respect to teachers and other children. • Yellow: “Think about it” reminds your child to slow down and think about why their behavior was disrupting the learning process or breaking a classroom/ school rule. • Red: Moving to “parent contact” represents inappropriate classroom/ school behavior. Constantly landing on red means consistent unacceptable behavior and may result in further disciplinary action such as a call home or notifying the principal. When students are moved to red parents will be notified by the “Oops” notice. *Please be sure to check your child’s folder each night. Behavior issues or improvements will be documented in the student Friday Folders.

  7. Specials Schedule Monday :Gym Tuesday: Vocal Music Wednesday: Gym Thursday: Vocal Music & Computers Friday: Art *(PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT IS WEARING SNEAKERS ON MONDAYS AND FRIDAYS)

  8. Grading • Students will be graded based on a percentage. (i.e. 9/10= 90%) • Lowest score= 50% (if lower, I will mark it next to the grade) • Class participation and homework are included in your child’s grade. • Please be sure to check Genesis Gradebook regularly. • 1/3 minor assessments; 2/3 major assessments

Everyday Math • Students are assessed daily based on a certain key point that is being mastered. • Our topics for this year include, place value through the ten thousands, parts and total number stories, partial sums, subtraction, measurement, multiplication, division, drawing and measuring angles, line segments, decimals. • Students receive at least 3 minor grades per week and 1 major grade per unit.

  10. Journeys • A new anchor story each week. • Focus on vocabulary, grammar, spelling, phonics, and comprehension skills aligned with the lesson. • Tests will typically be on Fridays, unless if it is a short week.

In Health we will discuss: Taking care of our bodies, taking care of our mind, sharing feelings, and getting along with others. -Mental and emotional health -Family and social health -Nutrition -Personal health and physical activity -Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs -Communicable and chronic diseases -Consumer and community health -Environmental health -Injury prevention and safety In Science we will discuss: • Our Units: • Life Science • Earth Science • Physical Science • Space and Technology In Social Studies we will discuss: • Students will learn about our community, state, and nation. • We will be learning about how communities grow and change, map skills, and sequence of events.
