  1. SEDA EI SAA UNUSTADA 1940.aastal okupeeris Nõukogude Liit iseseisva Eesti Vabariigi ning liitis selle Eesti Nõukogude Sotsialistliku Vabariigi nime all enda koosseisu. Vaatamata eestlaste meeleheitlikule võitlusele vabaduse eest ning vaba maailma mittetunnustuspoliitikale jäi võõras võim kestma pooleks sajandiks. Eesti riigile ja rahvale tõi kommunistlik võim kaasa raskemaid kannatusi. Ei hävitatud mitte ainult inimelusid ja materiaalseid ning kultuuriväärtusi, raskelt muserdati ka rahva hinge. Ometi ei unustanud eestlased unistust vabadusest ega lõpetanud võitlust iseseisvuse taastamise eest. Kasutades nõukogude süsteemi nõrgenemist tõusid ikestatud rahvad võitlusele vabaduse eest ning lammutasid nõukogude impeeriumi. Ajalugu on tõendanud, et vabaks ei saa ükski rahvas, kes ei võitle oma vabaduse eest. Samas on raske jääda vabaks rahval, kes unustab võitluse vabaduse eest. Seetõttu on meie kohus meenutada neid, kes seisid iseseisva Eesti eest ka kõige raskemates oludes, kes kannatasid ja ägasid ülekohtu koorma all, uskudes kõigi kiuste ometi õigluse võitu. Just nende pühendumisele ja lootusele on rajatud iseseisev Eesti riik. MÄLESTADES SEISKEM PÜSTIPÄI Kommunistliku vägivalla tulemusel hukkus Eestis 30 290 inimest.

  2. THIS CANNOT BE FORGOTTEN In 1940 the Soviet Union occupied the independent Republic of Estonia and incorporated it under the name of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic. In spite of the fierce resistance of the Estonians and the non-recognition of the Soviet takeover by the free world, the foreign rule persisted for half a century. The communist regime brought about severe suffering for the people and the country. Apart from the heavy loss of life and the destruction of material and cultural values, the Estonian soul was badly hurt. Nevertheless, Estonians did not give up their day-dream of freedom and they never ceased to fight for the restoration of their independence. Taking advantage of the deepening feebleness of the Soviet system, the captive nations rose and brought down the empire. History has proven, no nation shall be free unless it struggles for freedom. And no nation shall stay free unless it stands for freedom. It is therefore our duty to remember those who stood for free Estonia in the most difficult circumstance, who suffered greatly but never gave up their faith in the victory of justice. The free and independent Estonia has laid her foundations on the hope and dedication of such people.
