  2. On a bands genre, Ben Gibbard has said, "Some bands accused of being emo have gone so far as to go onstage and say 'We're not emo! This isn't emo! This is music!' and they just come off as more pretentious. You don't get to say what kind of music you make; that's what fans and writers do."

Style of Music and the influences behind it • Even though Ben has been quoted saying that he writes and plays pop songs because “that is what [they] are good at”, Death Cab for Cutie and a lot of his other music has been defined as Indie Rock. • Other styles that he as played or contributed to: Electropop, Indie Pop, alternative rock, and indietronica. Ben Gibbardand Chris Walla first teamed up to produce the first solo album of Gibbard, “You can play these songs with chords”. Which became a local hit. With the success of this album he teamed up with bassist Nick Harmer, drummer Nathan Good, and primary guitarist and producer Chris Walla. They then signed a contact with Barsuk Records with in the year. Death Cab for Cutie was formed.

  7. The Postal Service • Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, who had been friends for sometime, decided to put an album together. Due to the distance between them, Tamborello, a producer, would write and perform the tracks, send them to Gibbard who added his vocals and would send them back.
