Ms. Elizabeth Genuino’s Bio • Born in New York City, New York and raised in Carson, California • Attended all the local public schools in Carson, California • Graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA with a BA in Liberal Arts/Elementary Education and concentration in Political Science (1999) • Multiple Subject Credential Program from Cal State Long Beach (2004) • Fluency in Tagalog (Pilipino) and conversant in Spanish • Taught high school math and science for 2 years for LACOE • Currently teaching 5th Grade for the past 4 years for LAUSD • Continuing post-graduate education at Cal State Long Beach University • Enjoys reading, writing and joining community involvement projects

  10. Outstanding Attendance & Citizenship • Maintain outstanding attendance throughout the school year is the State & District mandate. • Reinforce positive behavior at home and at school. Refer to school & classroom rules and guidelines. • Child must be well-prepared with proper attire, materials for learning and come to school ready to learn. • Catskill is a uniform school. Your child is to wear appropriate school attire. • Teamwork between teacher-parent and student is the key to your child’s success in Grade 5

Effective Work Habits & Academics • Always be fully aware of what your child is learning in the classroom. • Homework is to be completed neatly and turned in on time every day. • Students receive an academic organizer to list all homework assignments and keep track of class project deadlines. Parent signature is required every night. • Reading log is required to be checked and signed by the parent every night. • Parent Notices are sent home regarding student progress and achievement. Sign all documents.

Warning notice is sent to parent. In danger of retention. Mandatory intervention program. There are 3 grades earned: Achievement, Effort and Work & Study Habits All grades are equal in weight. Achievement grades measures your child’s progress against the CA State Education Standard Effort grades measures your child’s productivity during academic subjects Work & Study Habits measures your child’s capability to be an independent learner LAUSD Grading Policy

READING A 5th grade student must read with an oral fluency of 120 words per minute The 6 Core Comprehension Strategies are emphasised and practiced Students are to keep a monthly reading log of every piece of literature they read. Encourage your child to practice 20 minutes of reading and have them tell you about it. WRITING 5th grade students are expected to write multiple-paragraph compositions: narrative and expository Vocabulary Strategies are introduced and practiced to strengthen reading comprehension and writing skills Journal Discussion and Writing 5 Stages of the Writing Process is emphasised Computer technology/information research Language Arts

Health & Physical Education • LAUSD Nutrition Network Program teaches students good nutritional habits and food sciences • National Physical Fitnessgram Assessment is taken in May 2006. • Fitnessgram includes: 1-mile timed walk/run, flexibility, push-ups, abdominal crunches • Sports: Volleyball, Softball, Kickball, Tennis, Basketball • Emphasize good health and good sportsmanship • Human Growth & Development
