Why „EurepGAP“ • EUREP = „Euro – Retailer Produce Working Group“ • Steering committees • Technical and Standards committee consisting of grower and retail members from the entire food chain • October 1997 – began working on its GAP • Food PLUS as a legal owner of the normative documents • GAP • Good Agriculture Practice • Set of guidelines used by international community to ensure working environments for agricultural workers, protection of the environment from agrochemicals, guarantees on the production of healthy food

What is EurepGAP? • Set of normative documents suitable to be accredited to internationally recognized certification criteria (ISO Guide 65) • Voluntary private sector standard - UK supermarkets have laid down for farmers to follow • Aim: • Achieve harmonization of standards through the food chain • Adress problems of safety and quality in food production at an early stage • Answer consumers concerns

  4. Requirements • Consumers – confidence in the food they eat • Retailers – to respond to consumers concerns • Producers – to produce acceptable food in a sustainable way

Audit. • 255 questions (control points) • 3 categories • Major must – failling any of these questions is not possible • Minor must – achieve score 95 % or above • Shoulds – some flexibility is allowed • 3 options how to become EurepGAP certif. • Each farm aplly individually • Produce Marketing Organization (PMO) • Certificate valid for 12 months
