  4. Definition • A Rain Gauge measures the amount of rain that has fallen in a certain area. • I used the definition from flashcards I studied in science class.

  5. Information The first known use of a rain gauge was in 1769. They measure the amount of rain that has fallen in a certain area. Usually Meteorologists and Hydrologists use rain gauges to measure the rainfall of a certain area. Farmers and gardeners along with hobbyists also use rain gauges. We can make one ourselves! A weather station interprets the data and keeps the records of the rainfall. Rain Gauges can be used all over the world.
